What You Need to Know about the Lake Placid Toboggan Chute

The Lake Placid toboggan chute is a time-honored winter activity among locals and tourists alike. Only a five-minute drive from our Adirondack resort, the toboggan chute sits on the edge of Mirror Lake. Because they’re a seasonal establishment dependant on the climate and weather, they’re prone to opening at a different time each year. Sometimes they start rides in December. One year, they couldn’t start until February, so it’s always good to check the website or give them a call at 518-523-9516 to see if they’re operating.

What to Wear

Make sure you bundle up for this sledding escapade as everything takes place outside. They recommend wearing a sturdy pair of pants, preferably denim, as the toboggans can be rough on fabric. You’ll also want to wear waterproof boots to withstand the snow.

What Does It Cost?

The Lake Placid toboggan chute only accepts cash, so visit an ATM before you arrive. There’s a one-time payment, and then you can sled as many times as you like within your timeslot.

  • $15.00 for adults
  • $10.00 for students

What to Expect

Each toboggan (provided for you) can hold two to four people. Once you’re seated on the toboggan and push your way over the edge of the ice chute, you could travel over 1000 feet once reaching Mirror Lake’s surface. Get your adrenaline pumping and soak in the Whiteface Mountains snowy splendor during your Lake Placid escapade.
