For hikers looking for a more challenging option, the Hurricane Mountain Fire Tower is a rewarding choice. This 5.6-mile trek is considered hard. However, many believe the reward is worth the difficulty, as the summit offers some of the best views in the Adirondacks of the surrounding mountains and shimmering lakes below.
Goodnow Mountain Fire Tower is another outstanding fire tower destination worth the drive. Located near Newcomb, this moderate 4-mile round-trip hike offers a quieter Adirondack experience with rewarding scenery and a beautifully restored historic fire tower at the summit. The Goodnow Mountain Fire Tower is 60 feet tall, making it one of the region’s tallest.
The ADK Fire Tower Challenge
The ADK Fire Tower Challenge is perfect for locals obsessed with the fire towers in the Adirondacks. To earn a patch, participants must climb and document ascents of at least 23 fire tower summits and submit proof of stewardship. Since 2001, thousands have completed the ADK Fire Tower Challenge.
