When you think of Lake Placid, you probably think of the Olympics or the area’s abundance of outdoor activities. One thing most people don’t think of is wine. While Upstate New York isn’t known as a wine Mecca like Napa Valley, the Adirondacks have plenty of fine wine to offer thirsty travelers. Do you want to sample the best wines in Upstate New York? Whiteface Lodge is here to recommend wineries, restaurants, and tasting rooms near Lake Placid for you to sip, swirl, and savor craft wine.
Kanu Dining Room
Have a fantastic Adirondack wine experience without leaving the comfort of Whiteface Lodge! Located in the lodge, Kanu Dining Room offers upscale dining with an Adirondack twist, from mouthwatering menu items to the restaurant’s decor. No upscale dining experience is complete without an extensive wine list so that you can find the perfect pairing for your meal. In fact, Kanu Dining Room received the Wine Spector award, so you know this is a great place to enjoy a glass. There’s nothing better than delectable food, delicious wine, good company, and stunning mountain views.
The Boat Tasting Room
Located on Main Street, The Boat Tasting Room is a great place for a glass of wine in Lake Placid. As you enter the business, you’ll be struck by the modern interior and unique bar. The bar, known as the boat bar, is shaped like a boat, fitting the Lake Placid area and the business’ name. They offer a wide selection of local wines, which you can purchase by the glass, bottle, or flight. However, The Boat Tasting Room offers more than wine; they also provide tastings of beer, which they make at Wood Boat Brewery, and spirits.
Top Of The Park
For perhaps the most extensive drink menu in all of Lake Placid, head to Top Of The Park. With over three dozen wines from wineries both local and abroad, you’re sure to find a wine that excites your palate. In addition to a great selection of wine, Top Of The Park also offers a unique Lake Placid dining experience, with small plates that you can pair beautifully with your wine of choice.
Savor a taste of the Adirondacks at Adirondack Winery. Admittedly, this winery is a bit of a drive from Lake Placid, but its award-winning wines make it well worth the trip. They make wines in all types of styles, though one of our favorites is Prospect Mountain White, a fruit-infused white wine that has a fresh peach flavor. No matter your favorite style, they have something for you. Adirondack Winery offers tastings, but if you don’t want to make the drive, they are available at many wine and liquor stores in the Lake Placid area.
