Catch a trophy trout fish on your next Adirondack adventure! Nestled among the towering peaks and pristine wilderness of upstate New York, the Adirondacks region is home to some of the best freshwater fishing in the country, especially trout fishing. The team at Whiteface Lodge is here to help you plan an unforgettable Adirondack trout fishing trip near our resort in Lake Placid. Here’s some information on some of the best trout fishing holes in the Adirondacks.

Prime Trout Fishing in the Adirondacks

The Adirondack Mountains are a haven for brook, brown, and rainbow trout. With an extensive network of rivers, streams, and lakes, anglers of all experience levels can find waters that suit their style—whether you’re fly fishing for wild brook trout or trolling deeper waters for trophy browns. We’re going to highlight a few of the best trout fishing locations near our Lake Placid lodge.

West Branch of the Ausable River

Arguably the most famous trout stream in the Adirondacks, the West Branch of the Ausable River is just a short drive from Lake Placid. With its clear, cold waters, challenging currents, and healthy trout population, it’s a fly fisher’s dream. The stretch between Lake Placid and Wilmington offers plentiful public access and scenic surroundings.

Mirror Lake

Located in downtown Lake Placid, Mirror Lake offers a convenient fishing experience. It is best known for its rainbow trout, but you can find outstanding lake trout in deeper waters during the summer months. Trophy-worthy fish have been pulled from Mirror Lake, and you could be the next to catch a monster.

Chubb River

The Chubb River is an overlooked gem that flows into Lake Placid and provides a tranquil alternative to more crowded fishing spots. It’s ideal for a quick outing close to town and is especially beautiful in the fall. The river is too narrow for boat fishing in some locations, but the shoreline fishing is fine.

Saranac River

About 30 minutes from Lake Placid, the Saranac River offers excellent trout fishing and diverse scenery. Its headwaters and branches are home to both wild and stocked trout.

Lake Placid Fishing Guides and Outfitters

If you’re new to the area or trout fishing in general, consider booking a Lake Placid fishing trip with a local guide. Outfitters such as Hungry Trout Fly Shop in Wilmington or Adirondack Mountain and Stream Guide Service offer equipment and guided experiences that help you make the most of your time on the water.
