The Top Things to Do at High Falls Gorge

High Falls Gorge is home to a wide array of activities and attractions. No matter your age or interest, you’ll find something suitable for you and your group.

Head to the gorge itself, also known as the “Ancient Valley of Foaming Water,” for the waterfall walk. The name comes from Native Americans who observed the natural foam that forms in the gorge. There are two ways to explore the waterfall walk. The first option is the Easy Path Trail, a quarter-mile in and quarter-mile out gravel trail with no stairs. If you’re feeling more adventurous, complete the loop around the waterfalls, which does include stairs but also offers glass platforms overlooking the gorge and suspended walkways for fantastic views.

Another highlight is the park’s Anorthosite boulder. This boulder is one of the oldest rocks in the world, over 1.5 billion years old. You can touch this piece of history.

Depending on when you visit, you’re in for some remarkable seasonal views. In the summer, you can experience beautiful wildflowers and lush colors. In the fall, the area is a hot spot for leaf peeping due to the amazing fall foliage. During the winter season, you’ll be able to view incredible ice formations on the cliffs. Bring your camera because High Falls Gorge is fabulously picturesque, and you’ll want to capture the memories you make.

If you work up an appetite while exploring High Falls Gorge, unwind at the park’s picnic area and enjoy a delicious meal. If you don’t feel like packing your own meal, The River View Cafe offers burgers, wraps, salads, and more on-site. Beer and wine are available at the cafe as well.
