Lake Placid Film FestivalMartin Scorcese. Kyra Sedgwick. Norman Jewison. After almost 20 years and several celebrity appearances later, the Lake Placid Film Festival has sealed its spot as one of the top small film festivals in the nation. At the end of October every year, several venues offer up their space to screen about 30 new movies just trying to make it to the big leagues. When you stay at Whiteface Lodge near the end of October, make sure to take a seat at the Lake Placid Film Festival. If their claim “We’re the reel deal” doesn’t convince you that it’s one of the best things to do in Lake Placid, we don’t know what will.

Movie Screenings in the Lake Placid Film Festival

Over just five days, 30 movies are screened between the Lake Placid Center for the Arts, the Palace Theatre, and more. Find a little something for everyone, whether it’s a romantic comedy, documentary, or even an animated film, ranging from just under an hour to almost two.

Entries in the Short Film Competition

The influence of the Olympics in Lake Placid inspired the Adirondack Film Society, so they decided to host a short film competition to foster creativity. Anyone is allowed to enter with their creation. Shorts must range from two minutes to fifteen to qualify. The winner receives a grand prize of $1,000. For second place, $750, and third, $500. People from all locations and backgrounds can enter, so a wide variety of films could be gathered and shared with the public.
