The Whiteface Lodge Launches New Epicurean Series of Food and Wine Events:
Creative Tasting and Educational Sessions for Guests and Local Residents
LAKE PLACID, NY (August 2010) – The Whiteface Lodge today introduced an ‘Epicurean Series’ of educational and tasting events hosted by Sommelier Scott Waller and Executive Chef Christopher Thomas, and tailored for guests as well as local residents. The new program was inspired in part by the Lodge winning its fourth annual ‘Award of Excellence’ from Wine Spectator magazine.
The new series of interactive sessions is designed to demonstrate basic cooking skills – including braising, grilling sautéing, blanching, baking and roasting – as well as showcase more sophisticated culinary techniques such food and wine pairings. Attendees will also have an opportunity to taste wines and spirits from around the world and experience the hands-on enjoyment of preparing creative and expressive cocktails.
Set in the casual and elegant Adirondack-style atmosphere of the KANU Lounge, the Epicurean Series features wine and spirits classes, tailored to inspire and enhance the knowledge of even the most novice connoisseurs, such as:
- Italian Wine Tasting – Served with matched Italian cheeses, attendees to this session will learn about the different styles of Italian wines with tastings covering different regions. (September 11, 2010; $40.00 per person)
- Cocktail class – Guests will learn interesting tips and techniques for creating balanced and expressive cocktail. Each pair of guests will measure, mix, stir, shake and sample their own creations (September 11, 2010; $60.00 per couple)
- Spanish Wine Tasting – Guests will receive insights about the different styles of Spanish wines. Tastings will cover different regions and will be served with matched Italian cheeses.
“Our guests inspired us to offer an educational food and wine program that would offer a deeper understanding of how our Chef prepares select seasonal menu items as well as the motivation that inspires our Sommelier to recommend a particular wine to complement a particular dish,” said Phil Anderson, General Manager, The Whiteface Lodge.
The Whiteface Lodge’s Epicurean Events are offered weekly – usually on Thursday evenings – throughout September and October with fees ranging from $30.00-$60.00 per person / per session (not including tax and gratuity). Many of the food and wine events are for individuals while others are tailored for couples. For a complete calendar or for additional information, please visit www.TheWhitefaceLodge.com.
