The Whiteface Lodge Ranks First in New York State on Condé Nast Traveler’s 2012 Gold List Awards
Lodge Scores Higher than Top Hotels in New York City; Only Resort Named in the Adirondacks
LAKE PLACID, NY (Jaunuary 30, 2012) – The Whiteface Lodge, Lake Placid today announced that it ranked first in New York State on Condé Nast Traveler’s annual Gold List Awards 2012, “The World’s Best Places to Stay.” The category was “Best US Hotels and Resorts.”
The new list, which appears in Condé Nast Traveler’s January 2012 issue, determines its rankings according to the magazine’s annual Readership Survey, which asks readers to provide comments on the “world’s greatest destinations, hotels, resorts, cruise ships, and airlines– and rate what puts them at the top of their list.” More specifically, the readership poll “is intended to reveal a property’s character rather than to catalog its facilities. Each score represents the percentage of respondents who rated a property excellent or very good on specific criteria, such as rooms, service, food, location, design and activities.” For more information on the Readership Survey’s methodology, please click here..
“After a year of securing many high-profile editorial accolades, it’s a tremendous honor to welcome the New Year with such a prestigious ranking on Condé Nast’s Gold List, truly one of the travel industry’s most coveted and respected editorial awards,” said Kevin Shields, General Manager, The Whiteface Lodge. “The award is an accolade shared by every Lodge employee— they have worked hard over the past year to maintain a seamless and anticipatory level of service highlighted by an array of superb dining options, creative ‘inclusive’ activities and plush, spacious accommodations. Ultimately, our goal is to ensure that each guest enjoys a one-of-a-kind, authentic and unforgettable Adirondack experience.”
“I’ve been in the hospitality industry for more than 20 years, and I can’t remember a resort in Lake Placid ever capturing first place in New York State on Condé Nast Traveler’s Gold List. This might be a ‘first’ for Lake Placid,” continued Mr. Shields, General Manager, the Whiteface Lodge. “We’re pleased to share this award with the local community and we’re also delighted to be part of such a vibrant, historical and supportive Adirondack area.”
“It is with great pleasure we in Lake Placid and all of us at the Olympic Authority acknowledge the tremendous contributions that the Whiteface Lodge has made to the overall tourist experience here in this very special part of the world,” said Ted Blazer, President and CEO, Olympic Regional Development Authority, Lake Placid (ORDA). “Exceptional service rarely goes unnoticed and this award is a prestigious acknowledgment of the Whiteface Lodge’s commitment to excellence.”
"The Whiteface Lodge exemplifies the traditional Adirondack great camp-style resort,” said James McKenna, President of Lake Placid's Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism. “We are pleased to have this property in our lodging repertoire, and this deserved distinction benefits and enhances the entire Adirondack region."
