GEMSTONE HOTELS AND RESORTS NAMES KEVIN SHIELDS
AS GENERAL MANAGER OF THE WHITEFACE LODGE, LAKE PLACID

LAKE PLACID, NY (November 11, 2011) –Gemstone Hotels and Resorts today announced the appointment of Kevin Shields as General Manager of the Whiteface Lodge, Lake Placid. Mr. Shields will oversee organizing, planning and directing operations for all departments at the 94-suite, award-winning Adirondack-themed property.

Prior to joining the Whiteface Lodge, Mr. Shields served as General Manager of a 488-room resort at Canyons in Park City, Utah. The recently rebuilt and refurbished Canyons resort village area – featuring a variety of lodging, dining, shopping, skiing, snowboarding and other recreational activities -- is the third largest ski area in the United States.

Mr. Shields brings an extensive background of experience in the hospitality industry. His notable track record includes working for Hilton Hotels and in a variety of locations including Indianapolis, Chicago, Minneapolis, San Antonio, San Diego, Portland and Las Vegas. In Las Vegas Mr. Shields was part of the executive team overseeing the opening of the renowned Paris hotel. He also served as a top executive at the Lake Las Vegas Resort.

Mr. Shields received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the School of Engineering and Technology at Purdue University; he was also awarded a degree from the University’s renowned School of Restaurant, Hotel and Institutional Management.
