While Memorial Day is considered the unofficial start of summer, the highlight of this season is perhaps the 4th of July. Whether the holiday lands on a weekday or weekend, there is no shortage of celebrations across the country. Add a bit of extra fun to your 4th of July weekend this year by planning a trip to Lake Placid and Whiteface Lodge. Our Adirondack resort is the perfect home base for anyone looking to enjoy the festivities and fun this charming town has to offer.

What to Do on Your Independence Day Escape

Before the official 4th of July events get underway, check out the Lake Placid Horse Show and I Love NY Horse Show. The events run back-to-back weeks starting at the end of June, making them the perfect addition to anyone visiting us over the holiday. Watch world-class riders compete for the grand prize in events starting at 8 a.m.

Now, when it comes to the actual holiday, this New York town doesn’t skimp on the fun. Around 5 p.m., the streets of Lake Placid become jampacked with visitors and locals finding the perfect viewing spot for the annual parade. The Lake Placid Fourth of July gala parade features businesses, civic groups, and individuals making their way down the crowded streets.

Of course, no 4th of July is complete without a colorful fireworks display! The legendary display, dubbed Set the Night to Music, starts at 9:30 p.m. Grab your blanket and head to Mirror Lake Public Beach or the hill overlooking Main Street early to make sure you snag a spot. The show is choreographed to music, and you can hear the official soundtrack on 100.7/102.1 – LAKEfm and 105.5/95.3 FM – Adirondack 105.
