GET UP AND GO!

It’s time to get up and explore the Adirondacks! Lake Placid has everything to do with your family this summer. Hiking, biking, climbing, and visiting the Olympic sites are just a few things you’ll experience while staying at the Whiteface Lodge.

The Road to the Olympics

Everyone is gearing up for the Summer Olympics in Rio, Brazil, this year, but Lake Placid has played host, twice to these exciting games. Once in 1932 and in 1980 the Winter Olympics were held in Lake Placid for the second time. Don’t forget to grab your Olympic Sites Passport. This passport gives you access to all of the Olympic Sites. The Olympic sites include Whiteface – The Olympic Mountain, Gore Mountain, Belleayre Mountain, the Olympic Sports Complex, Olympic Speed Skating Oval, Olympic Jumping Complex, Conference Center at Lake Placid, and the Olympic Center.

Make sure to stop by the Lake Placid Olympic Museum. Lake Placid is known as the world’s winter sports capital, but find out how it became a two-time spot for the Olympics and the miracles that took place on the ice.

Hike Your Way to the Falls

Have you always wanted to experience the Adirondack waterfalls? High Falls Gorge is the perfect place to be to see some of the best waterfalls in Lake Placid. This riverside park has 22 acres of trails and picnic areas for the whole family. The AuSable River travels through ancient granite cliffs and plummets below to bring the beautiful Adirondack waterfalls. High Falls Gorge is privately owned and for the comfort of all their guests, no pets are allowed, but the trail access is for all ages. High Falls rests in the shadow of Whiteface Mountain with sturdy bridges and walkways leading to scenic vantage points perfect for your next family photo. You can also mine for gemstones at the AuSable River Mining Company.

A Wild Time

If you’re looking for something to do outdoors that is also educational, head to The Wild Center. Since the Adirondack region is unique to the world, the Wild Center is science-based and designed for people to learn about the relationship with nature that humans have. The site has 81 areas of geographic land for exploring. Inside you’ll find a 54,000 square foot building dedicated to exhibit halls, films, and live shows. You might even encounter an animal or two on your trip to The Wild Center. Outside you can walk one of the many woodland trails or enjoy a nice scenic canoe ride on the river. If you’re looking for a different view of the forest, take a trail of bridges up to the Wild Walk. This walk is four stories above the ground and allows visitors a different perspective of the region.

Whether you walk on the wild side or step back into time for a miracle, The Whiteface Lodge and the Adirondack region of New York, have everything you need for your next Lake Placid vacation.
