Built in the style of the Adirondack "Great Camps", the new Whiteface Lodge is Lake Placid's newest, most luxurious hotel. The main lodge, with 80 sumptuous residential suites, has a three-story Great Room with twin fieldstone fireplaces and two gourmet restaurants. The neighboring Pavilion is due to open in June, and will have five magnificent suites, a year-round series of soothing hot pools, and outdoor fireplaces. Also opening: the Canoe Club, which will offer hotel guests a private beach as well as a fleet of kayaks, canoes, and sailboats for exploring the spectacular coastline. And kids will be wowed by the hotel's old-fashioned ice cream parlor, which dishes out treats such as chocolate-covered pretzels.
